 The musical was premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London, on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999. It opened on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre in 1991 and subsequently played in many other cities and embarked on tours. Prior to the opening of the 2014 London revival, it was claimed that Miss Saigon had set a new world record for opening day ticket sales, with sales in excess of £4m reported and now returns to the USA and is Playing at the Broadway Theatre.

 

Best Revival of a Musical

Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini’s opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover.
The setting of the plot is relocated to the 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War, and Madame Butterfly’s story of marriage between an American lieutenant and geisha is replaced by a romance between an American GI and a Vietnamese bargirl.

The musical débuted on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre on 11 April 1991 and closed on 28 January 2001 after 4,092 performances. Directed again by Nicholas Hytner with musical staging by Bob Avian, scenic design was by John Napier, costume design was by Andreane Neofitou and Suzy Benzinger and lighting design was by David Hersey. As of September 2015, Miss Saigon is still the 13th longest-running Broadway musical in musical theatre history.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical – Eva Noblezada

 

Making her Broadway debut! She is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. Eva was spotted by New York casting director, Tara Rubin, during a performance at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (also known as the Jimmy Awards) at the Minskoff Theatre in 2013. Rubin was so moved by Eva’s talent that she set up an audition with Cameron Mackintosh, who was preparing his 2014 London revival of Miss Saigon. Several callbacks later with Mackintosh and the creative team, Eva was chosen to star as Kim, making her professional and West End debut in the show. She garnered unanimous critical acclaim for her performance and received the Whatsonstage Award for Best Actress in A Musical. Eva recently finished playing the role of Eponine in Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables at London’s Queen’s Theatre. Eva is grateful and super excited to be fulfilling a dream of opening a Broadway show! Falsettos is a musical with a book by James Lapine and William Finn and music and lyrics by Finn. The musical consists of March of the Falsettos and Falsettoland, the last two in a trio of one-act Off-Broadway plays (the first was In Trousers). The story involves Marvin, his ex-wife Trina, his psychiatrist Mendel, his son Jason, and his gay lover Whizzer Brown. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1992. This production of FALSETTOS will mark a happy reunion for producer Andre Bishop, composer/lyricist William Finn, and playwright/director James Lapine.

Christian Borle –  an American actor featured in several Broadway productions. A two-time Tony Award winner for his roles in Peter and the Starcatcher as Black Stache and Something Rotten! as William Shakespeare, Marvin in Falsettos, and as Willy Wonker – Borle also starred as Tom Levitt on the NBC musical-drama series Smash.

Brandon Uranowitz is an American stage and television actor, best known for his roles as Adam Hochberg in An American in Paris and Mendel in the 2016 revival of Falsettos.
He was a 2015 Tony Nominee for his featured performance in An American in Paris, and received his second Tony Award nomination in 2017 for his featured performance in Falsettos
Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical – Stephanie J. Block
Stephanie Janette Block (born September 19, 1972) is an American actress and singer, known for her work in Broadway musicals. A two-time Tony Award nominee, she was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical for The Mystery of Edwin Drood in 2013, and for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Falsettos in 2017. She is also a five-time Drama Desk Award nominee and has appeared on numerous cast recordings. In 2009, she released a solo album, This Place I Know.

Hello, Dolly! is a 1964 musical with lyrics and music by Jerry Herman and a book by Michael Stewart, based on Thornton Wilder’s 1938 farce The Merchant of Yonkers, which Wilder revised and retitled The Matchmaker in 1955.
Hello, Dolly! was first produced on Broadway by David Merrick in 1964, winning a record 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, a record held for 37 years. The show album Hello, Dolly! An Original Cast Recording reached number one on the Billboard album chart on June 6, 1964 was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002.
Hello Dolly has become one of the most enduring musical theatre hits, enjoying five Broadway revivals and two USA national Tours and countless  international productions. It was also made into the 1969 film Hello Dolly! that was nominated for seven Academy Awards, and won three.

David Hyde Pierce (born April 3, 1959) is an American actor, director, and comedian.
Pierce is known for playing the psychiatrist Dr. Niles Crane on the NBC sitcom Frasier, for which he won four Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series during the show’s run. Pierce also has appeared on and directed for the stage. He won the 2007 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his performance in the musical Curtains. He also played Dr. Jones in When We Rise.

Bette Midler (born December 1, 1945) is an American singer, songwriter, actress, comedian, and film producer.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, Midler began her professional career in several Off-Off-Broadway plays, prior to her engagements in Fiddler on the Roof and Salvation on Broadway in the late 1960s. She came to prominence in 1970 when she began singing in the Continental Baths, a local gay bathhouse where she managed to build up a core following.

Gavin James Creel (born April 18, 1976) is an American actor, singer and songwriter. Creel is best known for his work in musical theatre, for which he has received two Tony Award nominations—for originating the role of Jimmy in Thoroughly Modern Millie and for his performance as Claude in Hair—and an Laurence Olivier Award for originating the West End version of Elder Price in The Book of Mormon at Prince of Wales Theatre. He also played the role of Elder Price in US National Tour and on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre. He played Steven Kodaly in Roundabout Theatre Company’s production of She Loves Me, which premiered in spring 2016.

Katherine “Kate” Baldwin (born May 2, 1975) is an American actress and singer known for her work in musical theatre.Baldwin made her Broadway debut in The Full Monty in 2000, followed by appearances in Thoroughly Modern Millie, “Big Fish the Musical” and Wonderful Town. She frequently performs in regional theater and was nominated for the Helen Hayes Award for her portrayal of Nellie Forbush in the 2002 Arena Stage production of South Pacific.
