Joanne Froggatt Coming to the West End

 

 

David Lindsay Abaire’s beautiful and funny Pulitzer Prize-winning, Tony Award-nominated drama Rabbit Hole makes its UK debut this autumn at the Vaudeville Theatre.

In this celebrated play, Becca (Joanne Froggatt) and Howie Corbett are parents who have all that a family could wish for until one day their world is suddenly turned upside down. Eight months following that life-shattering incident, the young couple find themselves drifting perilously apart.

Rabbit Hole charts their bittersweet search for comfort in the darkest of places and for a path that will lead them back into the light of day.

The play will run from 11 September to 22 November 2014 at the Vaudeville Theatre The Strand London.

Rabbit Hole is a play written by David Lindsay-Abaire. It was the recipient of the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The play was originally commissioned by South Coast Repertory and first presented at its Pacific Playwrights Festival reading series in 2005. It received its first full production in New York in 2006, and it has also been produced by regional theatres in cities such as Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The play had its Spanish language premiere in San Juan, Puerto Rico in Autumn of 2010.

The play deals with the ways family members survive a major loss, and includes comedy as well as drama. Cynthia Nixon won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Play for her performance as Becca in the New York production, and the play was nominated for several other Tony awards.

Joanne Froggatt (born 21 August 1980) is an English actress of stage, television, and film, most notably appearing in Downton Abbey as Anna, Lady’s Maid to Lady Mary Crawley. She earlier had a regular role in Coronation Street and has also appeared in many other television dramas including Bad Girls, dinnerladies, Nature Boy, Red Cap, A Touch of Frost, Other People’s Children, The Street, Rebus, Island at War, and Life on Mars.

In 1996, Froggatt made her TV debut in the long-running ITV drama The Bill, and shortly afterwards landed the role of teenage mother Zoe Tattersall in Coronation Street. She left the programme in 1998 when her character was written out.

David Lindsay-Abaire (born November 14, 1969) is an American playwright, lyricist and screenwriter. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2007 for his play Rabbit Hole, which also earned several Tony Award nominations.

Lindsay-Abaire had his first theatrical success with Fuddy Meers, which was workshopped as part of the National Playwrights Conference at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre Center under Artistic Director Lloyd Richards and ultimately premiered at the Manhattan Theatre Club. He returned to the Manhattan Theatre Club with Wonder of the World, starring Sarah Jessica Parker, about a wife who suddenly leaves her husband and hops a bus to Niagara Falls in search of freedom, enlightenment, and the meaning of life.

His Rabbit Hole, produced in 2006 in New York with Cynthia Nixon, Tyne Daly, and John Slattery, won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Play, as well as other Tony awards, and Cynthia Nixon won a Tony as Best Actress.

Lindsay-Abaire also wrote Kimberly Akimbo (2000),Wonder of the World (2000), Dotting and Dashing (1999), Snow Angel (1999), The L’il Plays (1997), and A Devil Inside (1997).
