Opera Australia fired soprano Tamar Iveri over gay slurs 24 June 2014
Opera Australia has fired soprano Tamar Iveri from her contract following a furore over her homophobic comments posted on the singer’s Facebook page and has caused a huge backlash from Australia Opera Fans, as they all headed to social media to have Ms Tamar Tveri removed from the current season, and –

Statement from Opera Australia regarding soprano Tamar Iveri:
Opera Australia confirms soprano Ms Tamar Iveri will not be performing in Otello.
Opera Australia has reached agreement with Ms Iveri to immediately release her from her contract with the company.
Ms Iveri and her husband have both made public statements in the last 48 hours with regards to comments attributed to Ms Iveri.
Ms Iveri has unreservedly apologised for those comments and views.
Opera Australia believes the views as stated to be unconscionable.

Tamar had posted a letter/Post to Georgian President Giorgi Margvelashvili in which she begged him to “stop vigorous attempts to bring West’s fecal masses in the mentality of the people by means of propaganda”. Its is believed the singer was responding to a gay pride parade that had been organised to pass through the yard of an Orthodox Church in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi.
On Saturday the singer blamed her husband for the comments after they were reported in the Australian media on Friday.
“Ms Iveri and her husband who Live in Tbilisi, Georgia have both made public statements in the last 48 hours with regards to comments attributed to Ms Iveri,” Opera Australia said on Monday.
“She has unreservedly apologised for those comments and views.
