Reviews and Dates
Phantom of the Opera is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the French novel Le Fantme de l Opera by Gaston Leroux. The music was composed by Lloyd Webber, and most lyrics were written by Charles Hart. Phantom began Broadway previews at the Majestic Theatre on January 9, 1988 and opened on January 26. Crawford, Brightman and Barton reprised their respective roles from the London production. The production continues to play at the Majestic, where it became the first Broadway musical in history to surpass 10,000 performances on 11 February 2012. On 26 January 2013 the production celebrated its 25th anniversary with its 10,400th performance. It is, by over 3,000 performances, the longest-running show in Broadway history.
Following an acclaimed sold-out tour of the United Kingdom, Cameron Mackintosh’s spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s phenomenal musical success, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, is now on tour across North America. Critics are raving that this breathtaking production is bigger and better than ever before. This PHANTOM features a brilliant new scenic design by Paul Brown, Tony Award-winning original costume design by Maria Bjornson, lighting design by Tony Award winner Paule Constable, new choreography by Scott Ambler, and a new staging by director Laurence Connor. The production, overseen by Matthew Bourne and Cameron Mackintosh, boasts many exciting special effects including the show’s legendary chandelier. The beloved story and thrilling score with songs like Music of the Night, All I Ask Of You, and Masquerade will be performed by a cast and orchestra of 52, making this PHANTOM one of the largest productions now on tour.
