Back to the Future – Broadway Summer 2023

 

Back To The Future: The Musical is scheduled to arrive on Broadway next summer after a successful run on the West End starting previews June 30 2023 and opening on August 03 2023 at the Wintergarden Theatre NYC .

Reprising his role from the London production, Roger Bart will be playing ‘Doc,’ the gravelly-voiced old man who turns his DeLorean into a time machine.

Now Roger, 60, has starred in an ad for the musical alongside none other than Christopher Lloyd, who played Doc in the original movie.

The Wintergarden Theatre is currently occupied by a revival of The Music Man starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.

 The Music Man will close on New Year’s Day, leaving time for Back To The Future to settle into the Winter Garden.

 

Back to the Future: The Musical is an Olivier Award-winning stage musical with music and lyrics by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard and a book by Bob Gale, adapted from the original screenplay by Robert Zemeckis and Gale. Based on the 1985 film of the same name, the show features original music alongside hits from the film, including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode”.

The musical originally was slated to make its world première in London’s West End in 2015, the year to which the trilogy’s characters traveled in Part II. However, after director Jamie Lloyd left the production in August 2014, due to “creative differences” with Zemeckis, the production’s release date was pushed to a 2016 opening. In May 2019, it was announced the show would receive its world premiere at Manchester Opera House in February 2020, ahead of an expected West End transfer. The show stars Olly Dobson, playing the role of protagonist Marty McFly, originally portrayed by Michael J. Fox. Tony Award winner Roger Bart plays Emmett “Doc” Brown, originally portrayed by Christopher Lloyd. The musical will come to Broadway sometime in 2023 – 24.
