Ambassador Theatre
The Ambassador opened in 1921 and can seat 1,088 customers at a time. Designed by the Shubert’s prime architect, Herbert Knapp, this building presented a unique challenge. Since the plot of land at 215 W 49th St was too narrow for a conventional theatre design, Knapp placed the auditorium diagonally. This means that the stage has little wing space and an unusual hexagonal shape.
