American Psycho the new Broadway musical based on Bret Easton Ellis’s 1991 book, about a serial killer in the 1980’s with music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa staring Benjamin Walker, Alice Ripley and Jennifer Damiano. American Psycho has not received a large advance summer bookings and had very mixed reviews from the critics and public. American Psycho last performance will be on June 05, 2016.
In 2008, producers David Johnson, Jesse Singer, Nate Bolotin and Aaron Ray purchased the stage rights and were developing a musical adaptation of the novel to appear on Broadway. In 2010, it was revealed that the project had rounded out the key elements. Duncan Sheik, who won a Grammy and two Tony Awards, for writing the songs in the Broadway hit, Spring Awakening, and playwright Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa had completed the first act. A workshop took place in Manhattan in 2011, with Benjamin Walker playing the lead role of Patrick Bateman. In April 2012, it was announced that London theatre company Headlong would stage the musical’s world premiere during their 2012-13 season. At the same time a Kickstarter campaign was launched to raise $150,000, to allow them to have a live orchestra and extend the rehearsal period for the production to seven weeks. American opened for previews on March 24, 2016 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre and had its opening night on April 21, 2016.
Tuck Everlasting is a musical based upon the American children’s novel Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. It features music by Chris Miller, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and a book by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle, with direction and choreography by Casey Nicholaw. The musical had its premiere at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2015. It began Broadway previews on March 31, 2016; and opened on April 26, 2016, at the Broadhurst Theatre, Tuck Everlasting will play its last performance on May 29, 2016.
Tuck Everlasting the Musical based on Natalie Babbitt’s best-selling 1975 young-adult novel that has been filmed twice, so the story is relatively well known and with echoes of Finian’s Rainbow and Brigadoon this family musical should have hit a bullseye, however with low attendances and very little advance, another show goes by the kerb. Tuck Everlasting is a wonderful show, with many heart felt moments and wonderful songs that tell a great story and the uplifting score has been a stand out.
