Andrew Rannells plays King George III

in the Big Broadway Hit

Andrew Rannells joins Hamilton at Theatregold.com

Hamilton is a musical with music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. It is inspired by Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. Hamilton opened off Broadway at the Joseph Papp Public Theater on February 17, 2015 and closed May 03, opened on Broadway August 06, 2015 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. According to an article in The New Yorker, the show is “Rooted in hip-hop, but also encompassing R. & B., jazz, pop, Tin Pan Alley, and the choral strains of contemporary Broadway, the show is an achievement of historical and cultural reimagining.” The costumes and set reflect the period, with “velvet frock coats and knee britches.

 

Andrew Rannells originated the role of Elder Price in The Book of Mormon (Grammy Award, Drama Desk and Tony nominations). Additional Broadway: Hairspray, Jersey Boys and most recently as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Rannells is also known for his role as Elijah on the hit HBO series “Girls” (Critics’ Choice nomination) and for his work on the NBC’s “The New Normal”. Rannells can be seen in the current season of Steven Soderbergh’s “The Knick” on Cinemax and in Nancy Meyer’s latest film, The Intern.
