While we may sadly be saying goodbye to From Here To Eternity on stage in a few days, the future isn’t all that grim for the boys (and girls) of ’41 as, in cooperation with Omniverse Vision, Fathom Events will be bringing the show to fans via the cinema!

CENTENNIAL, Colo.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–At CinemaCon 2014, the largest annual gathering of cinema owners and operators from around the world, Fathom Events announced that it will partner with Omniverse Vision to capture the musical stage production of From Here To Eternity from London’s prestigious West End for cinecast to cinemas across the country. As a production partner, this marks a first-of-its-kind venture for Fathom Events, who has long been recognized as the leader in alternative content. Fathom fans will be the first U.S. audience to see From Here To Eternity, presented in hundreds of select movie theaters around the country through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network later this year, with the Broadway production slated for 2015.
So for everyone who missed it including me (That’s most of the world) can see it at a cinema soon or maybe Broadway 2015 -2016

What’s happening to Musical theatre in London, the latest crop can’t even run a year ?
Tim Rice’s From Here to Eternity has only survived for five months, one would have though this would have run for years. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Stephen Ward just making it to four months has the world gone mad or are they just not that good or interesting any more.
I for one, now in my fifties remember “From Here to Eternity” because it was one of the first movies I saw about sex, the beach and Montgomery Cliff. It was a picture for everyone, it had a love story, The little guy after successful man’s wife, oops late 1950’s sex shocker, a fighter who refused to fight, lots of boys,out at night drinking and dancing with the local girls, and the Second World War for dad and Frank Sinatra. One would think it would make the best musical ever.
The Reviews, Tim Walker from The Telegraph – “is highly enjoyable” (The Telegraph 27th Oct 2013) also Tim writes “and let me say straight away that I like it”

Ok I have picked the bones out of all the reviews, but having read them all I guess there all basically just saying its OK. Lets face the West End is a hard town. One might think if they had let in run into summer that the Box Office would rise, of course I am not paying the bills and the sums must add up to closing, I am so sorry to see this go with out a fight, sorry Private Prewitt “Fight the Fight”

Casting has been announced for the world premiere of Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson’s new stage musical From Here to Eternity which begins previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 30 September. Darius Campbell (Chicago, West End) will play Warden, Siubhan Harrison (Grease, West End) will play Lorene, Robert Lonsdale (Anna Christie, Donmar Warehouse) will play Prewitt, Ryan Sampson (Open Court, Royal Court) will play Maggio and Rebecca Thornhill (South Pacific, UK tour) will play Karen.
The cast also includes Keisha Amponsa Banson, Marc Antolin, Julie Armstrong, James Ballanger, John Brannoch, Abigail Climer, Brian Doherty, Jessica Ellen, Dale Evans, Shimi Goodman, Kirby Hughes, Lauren Ingram, Dean John-Wilson, Joshua Lacey, Carolyn Maitland, Nuno Queimado, Lucinda Shaw, Warren Sollars, David Stoller, Rebecca Sutherland, Laura Tyrer, Adam Vaughan, Lauren Varnham, Stephen Webb and Matthew Wesley.
The official plot synopsis of FROM HERE TO ETERNITY is as follows: “Pearl Harbor, 1941, where the girls sing ‘don’cha like Hawaii,’ the men of G Company sing the blues, and where even on an army base, love and desire are never very far away. When the troubled Private Prewitt falls for the kind hearted escort club girl Lorene, and when his platoon sergeant, Warden, embarks on a dangerous affair with his commanding officer’s wife, Karen, the lives of both men are set on a course they cannot control. As war approaches, the worlds of the four lovers and the soldiers of G Company are dramatically ripped apart.”
Adapted from one of the greatest novels of the twentieth century, this gripping tale of illicit love and army life unites the writing talents ofTim Rice (lyrics), Stuart Brayson (music) and Bill Oakes (book). It marks Tim’s first new stage musical for over ten years and Stuart’s West End debut.
Published in 1951, From Here to Eternity was James Jones’ debut novel. It won him the National Book Award for fiction in 1952. The narrative is loosely based on Jones’ experiences in the pre-World War II Hawaiian Division’s 27th Infantry and the unit in which he served. In 1953 the novel was adapted into a film directed by Fred Zinnemann and produced by Buddy Adler, starring Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift, Ernest Borgnine, Deborah Kerr and Donna Reed. The film won 8 Academy Awards out of 13 nominations.
