Garen Scribner has taking over Robert Fairchild’s

role of Jerry in “An American in Paris” on Broadway

Garen is currently starring as Jerry Mulligan in Christopher Wheeldon’s  An American in Paris on Broadway at the Palace Theatre on Broadway. Inspired by the Academy Award-winning film of the same name, the musical is described as a romantic story about an American GI, a mysterious French girl, with the wonderful Paris as there back drop, each yearning for a new beginning in the aftermath of war.

 

He has been fortunate to work directly with choreographers Christopher Wheeldon, Jiri Kylian, William Forsythe, Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon, Alexander Ekman, Marco Goecke, Wayne McGregor, Mark Morris, John Neumeier, Helgi Tomasson, and Lar Lubovitch, among others. Many original roles were created for him and he performed principal roles in the canon of classical story ballets and seminal neoclassical works.

Garen partnered with Jennifer Lopez in national and international commercials for L’Oreal Paris and he is featured in music videos with Les Twins, Santana and Michelle Branch and performed live with Deborah Cox. He also appeared in the national broadcasts of The Nutcracker and The Little Mermaid for Great Performances on PBS.

As a choreographer, Garen created work for Nederlands Dans Theater’s Switch and for Stanford University, where he taught as a guest lecturer for two years.  He has been honored for his artistry with awards from the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts and the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards organization. While performing with SF Ballet, Garen earned a BA in Liberal Arts with Honors from St. Mary’s College of CA.

After performing around the world as a soloist with San Francisco Ballet and a member of Nederlands Dans Theater I, Garen is now an independent artist based in New York City. With a new journey in the Broadway theatre with his ongoing and now full time role as Jerry in “An American in Paris”

An American in Paris is a musical play inspired by the 1951 Academy Award winning film of the same name. It opened at the Palace Theatre on Broadway on April 12, 2015, following an engagement at the Theatre du Ch¢telet in Paris. Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs the cast of 25 singers, actors and dancers led by Garen Scribner, Leanne Cope, Veanne Cox, Jill Paice, Brandon Uranowitz and Max von Essen. Broadwayworld.com has reported the US National Tour of An American in Paris, this fall will star Garen and Sara Esty who has been playing Lise Dassin at Various Performances.
