Motown: The Musical is a Broadway musical about the true story of how Berry Gordy created Motown, the greatest music label in America’s history. The musical has a book by Berry Gordy, based on his 1994 autobiography, To Be Loved: The Music, the Magic, the Memories of Motown. The music and lyrics are from the Motown catalog. The musical premiered on Broadway in April 2013. Critics enjoyed the performances of the songs but found the book thin. Motown: The Musical received four Tony Award nominations at the 67th edition.
