Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Moulin Rouge! is a jukebox musical with a book by John Logan. The musical is based on the 2001 film of the same name directed by Baz Luhrmann and written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce. The musical premiered on July 10, 2018 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston. Moulin Rouge! is set in Montmartre Quarter of Paris, France, during the Belle Epoque at the turn of the 20th century. It is a fictional story about Christian, a young composer, who ends up falling in love with cabaret actress Satine, who is the star of the Moulin Rouge. Similar to the movie, the musical’s score will weave together original songs with popular music “including songs that have been written in the 17 years since the film’s premiere

WHAT HEALTH & SAFETY PROTOCOLS WILL BE IN PLACE?

Jujamcyn Theaters is deeply committed to the health and safety of our audiences, performers, and staff. Based on CDC and New York state guidelines at the time of performance, protocols may include contact tracing survey, vaccination or negative test verification, limitations on belongings in the theatre, proper mask usage, assigned entry times, contactless temperature check, social distancing, and more.

For the very special Can Can! seating experience at Moulin Rouge! The Musical, additional health and safety protocols are in place. Read about them here.

WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT VACCINATION POLICY?

The following policy applies to all guests visiting our theatres for performances through February 28, 2022.

GUESTS 12 AND OLDER

Guests aged 12 and older will need to be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine in order to attend a performance at a Jujamcyn theatre and must provide proof one of the following:

  • 2 doses of an FDA or WHO authorized 2-dose COVID-19 vaccine dated at least 14 days before the performance date, or
  • 1 dose of an FDA or WHO authorized single-dose COVID-19 vaccine dated at least 14 days before the performance date.

All guests must also present a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. Guests younger than 18 may present a government-issued ID or school ID, with or without a photo.

GUESTS BETWEEN 5 AND 11 YEARS OLD

Guests between 5 and 11 years old must be accompanied by an adult who meets the above requirements and must provide proof of:

  • 1 dose of an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine dated at least 14 days before the performance date.

VALID PROOF OF VACCINATION OR NEGATIVE TEST

Proof of vaccination (or negative test) must come directly from the healthcare provider that performed the vaccination or test. Guests can present proof via an official governmental mobile app or website containing vaccination or testing information, or a photo or physical copy of a vaccination card or test result. New York State residents, or anyone who received a COVID-19 vaccine or was administered a COVID-19 test in New York State, may present proof through the use of the Excelsior Pass (for more details, visit: https://epass.ny.gov).

Policy exceptions

The only exceptions to the above policy will be for guests under the age of 5, guests who need reasonable accommodations due to a medical exception or sincerely held religious belief that prevents vaccination, guests 12 and over who are not 14 days past their final vaccination, and guests under 12 who are not 14 days past their first vaccination dose. These guests must provide proof of at least one of the following:

  • A negative COVID-19 PCR test performed by a medical professional taken within 72 hours of the performance start time that clearly shows the date and time of the test, or
  • A negative COVID-19 antigen test taken within 6 hours of the performance start time that clearly shows the date and time of the test. This test may be performed by a medical professional or by using an over-the-counter testing kit.

Can Can! Seating at Moulin Rouge! The Musical at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre is subject to additional policies and protocols due to its close proximity to the stage and performers. More details on the requirements for these seats here.

This policy is subject to change, but will be clearly communicated to ticket holders in advance of their performance.

DO MY TWO DOSES NEED TO BE FROM THE SAME VACCINE?

For international guests, 2 doses of any “mix and match” combination of FDA or WHO approved COVID-19 vaccines is acceptable. The doses must have been administered at least 17 days apart, and at least 14 days must have passed since your second dose.

DO I NEED A COVID BOOSTER SHOT TO ATTEND MY PERFORMANCE?

At this time, we are not requiring COVID booster shots to attend a performance in a Jujamcyn theatre.

WHAT IF MY PROOF-OF-VACCINATION IS NOT IN ENGLISH?

We will be accepting proof-of-vaccination for all FDA and WHO approved vaccines. If your proof-of-vaccination is not in English, please locate a COVID Safety Officer or other Theatre employee for assistance at your time of entry.

WHAT IS YOUR MASK POLICY?

All guests, regardless of vaccination status, must properly wear a mask at all times except while actively eating or drinking when seated. All masks must completely cover the nose and mouth, and must comply with the CDC guidelines for acceptable face coverings.

IS THEATRE SEATING SOCIALLY DISTANT?

All theatre seating is not socially distant.

WHAT OTHER COVID PROTOCOLS WILL BE IN PLACE?

  • Contactless options will be available for transactions upon entry and for in-venue purchases.
  • All auditorium ventilation systems have been upgraded to MERV 13 filters.
  • EPA approved cleaning products are used along with rigorous cleaning and sanitation protocols.
