Eric and Cyndy are looking for some direction. They’ve decided to follow the lead of their friends Zach and Shelley and make the real life practice of Christian Domestic Discipline the foundation of their marriage. But restructuring their lives and their union according to role play and a new moral code upends everything they knew–and took for granted–about one another, their friends, and more importantly, who really holds the power.

Robert Askins returns to MCC Theater following the critically-acclaimed Hand to God with this new comedy about our all-too-human impulse to make order out of the chaos of modern relationships.

Robert Askins – Playwright

was born in Cypress, Texas in 1980. He moved to New York in 2005. His Obie Award-winning play Hand to God is currently running on Broadway at the Booth Theatre after a 2014 run at MCC and three sold-out runs at Ensemble Studio Theater in 2011-12. In 2009 his play Princes of Waco was produced by EST/Youngblood. His one act play Matthew and the Pastor’s Wife was a part of Marathon 2010 at EST and The Love Song of the Albanian Sous Chef won a Dallas Outer Circle Critics Award in 2011. Mr. Askins is proud to be an alumnus of I-73, Youngblood, and a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre. He has received two E.S.T./Sloan grants, an Arch and Bruce Davis Award and is one of the 2012 recipients of the Helen Merrill Award for emerging playwrights.

is a two-time Tony®-nominated writer and director and the recipient of Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle Awards, as well as two OBIE Awards. Broadway: Peter and the Starcatcher (Co-Director, OBIE Award: Best Director, Tony® Nomination: Best Director), Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (also Book Writer; Drama Desk Award: Best Book, Lortel and OCC Awards: Best Musical, Tony ® Nomination: Best Book), The Pee-wee Herman Show (Aired on HBO, Nominated for Emmy® Award), Off-Broadway: Here Lies Love (Drama Desk and OCC nominations: Best Director), A Very Merry Unauthorized Pageant (OBIE Award, Garland Award- Best Director), Gutenberg! His most recent work includes Rocky, which opened on Broadway in 2014 and is currently running in Hamburg, Love’s Labours Lost, which he co-wrote and directed at the Public’s Shakespeare in the Park in 2013, and The Last Goodbye, which sets Romeo and Juliet to the music of Jeff Buckley.

Lucas Near-Verbrugghe (Zach) has been seen in Bloody Blood Andrew Jackson on Broadway, Love Labour’s Lost and Macbeth at Shakespeare in the Park, Boom at Ars Nova directed by Alex Timbers, Oohrah! at the Atlantic Theater directed by Evan Cabnet, The Common Pursuit and The Ritz at the Roundabout Theater Company, and Assistance at Playwrights Horizons directed by Trip Cullman.
