The Bridges of Madison County Closing
Published on: May 9, 2014
The Broadway musical The Bridges of Madison County the first season casualty will close on May 18 after months of slow ticket sales and no help at the box office from the four Tony Award nominations for the show.
The Bridges of Madison County Musical is a 1992 best-selling novel by Robert James Waller which was also adapted into a 1995 film of the same name, adapted by Richard LaGravenese and directed by Clint Eastwood. It stars Eastwood and Meryl Streep. The musical premiered at the Williamstown Theatre Festival on August 1, 2013. Officially opened on Broadway 20th Feb 2014 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (in previews from 17th Jan 2014) to close May 18 2014.
Bridges began previews in January, and opened late February to fairly good reviews, however there has been very little ticket buyers support. Another side to the story is it has been a very crowded season with If/Then, Rocky, Bullets over Broadway, Aladdin and the revivals of Cabaret, Les Miserables and Hedwig.
So don’t miss your last chance to see Kelli O’Hara and Steven Pasquale in Bridges of Madison County. Sad to say goodbye !
