by Music and Lyrics by Rob Rokicki, and a Book by Joe Tracz
The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is a musical with music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki, and a book by Joe Tracz, based on the 2005 novel of the same name by Rick Riordan. The musical follows Percy Jackson, a teenager who newly discovers that he is a demigod and goes on an epic quest to find Zeus’ missing lightning bolt and prevent a war between the Greek gods. After it was introduced in New York City by Theatreworks USA in 2014 as a one-hour musical, part of its free theatre series, and went into a national tour, it was announced on January 10, 2017 that a new version would be produced, with a new score and an updated, expanded script. The musical would have a limited run, with performances beginning on March 23, an opening set for April 4 and a last performance on May 6 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The show announced its national tour on April 17, 2018, which debuted in Chicago in 2019.
On August 11, 2019 it was announced that the musical would play a 16-week limited run on Broadway beginning previews September 20 and an opening set for October 16 at the Longacre Theatre.

Longacre Theatre
The Longacre Theatre is a Broadway theatre located at 220 West 48th Street in midtown Manhattan.Designed by architect Henry Beaumont Herts in 1912, it was named for Longacre Square, the original name for Times Square. The French neo-classical building was constructed by impresario Harry Frazee, better remembered as the owner of the Boston Red Sox who, needing money for his theatrical ventures, sold Babe Ruth’s contract to the New York Yankees. A curse allegedly lingered on the theatre as a result, and there was a time in which superstitious producers avoided it for fear they’d be backing a flop, as noted by William Goldman in his seminal book The Season: A Candid Look at Broadway. Despite the rumor, a large number of performers who have appeared on stage here have taken home a Tony Award for their efforts.
