Back Story

The Little Prince with a libretto by Chris Mouron and original music by Terry Tuck on Broadway at the Broadway Theatre from March 4 to August 14, 2022. This adaptation previously had runs in Paris, Sydney, and Dubai and was directed and choreographed by Anne Tournié (Mouron also co-directed).

Original Novel

The Little Prince is a French-language work, the best known by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Published in 1943 in New York simultaneously with its English translation1, it is a poetic and philosophical work under the guise of a children’s tale.

Translated into four hundred and fifty-seven languages and dialectsThe Little Prince is the second most translated work in the world after the Bible.

Language, simple and stripped down, because it is intended to be understood by children, is in reality for the narrator the privileged vehicle of a symbolic conception of life. Each chapter recounts an encounter of the little prince that leaves him perplexed, in relation to the absurd behaviors of the “big people”. These different encounters can be read as an allegory. Watercolors are part of the text and participate in this purity of language: stripping and depth are the main qualities of the work. The narrator is an aviator who, following an engine failure, had to land in disaster in the Sahara desert and tries alone to repair his plane (Antoine de Saint-Exupéry stages himself in his work).
