Clyde’s
A Savory Comedy by Lynn Nottage
The Kitchen of Second Chances
Clyde’s is a “flavor-bomb” of a play written by the legendary Lynn Nottage. Set in the humid, high-pressure kitchen of a Pennsylvania truck stop, the story follows a group of formerly incarcerated kitchen staff. Under the watchful (and often cruel) eye of their boss, Clyde, they strive to reclaim their dignity through the unlikely art of sandwich-making.
“While their boss reminds them they are ‘nothing but their mistakes,’ the mysterious Montrellous inspires the crew to dream of the perfect sandwich—a metaphor for a life built with intention and grace.”
Broadway Run
Produced by Second Stage Theater, the play opened at the Hayes Theater on November 23, 2021. It quickly became a critical darling, noted for its balance of “laugh-out-loud” humor and deeply felt pathos.
