Featuring a young ensemble cast, GREASE: LIVE will reintroduce and reimagine some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation. In this live television adaptation of the musical classic, the beginning of senior year means the end of Danny and Sandy’s summer romance – until Sandy unexpectedly transfers to Danny’s high school. Can Danny maintain his bad-boy image as the coolest member of the T-Birds, once he and Sandy start going together, and can Sandy remain a good girl after she joins the Pink Ladies? With their friends Rizzo and Kenickie pulling them in different directions, it’s up to Danny and Sandy to stay hopelessly devoted as they make their way from Rydell High to a new frontier.
GREASE: LIVE is based on the original 1971 musical “Grease,†by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey; and Paramount Pictures’ 1978 feature adaptation. The film, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, grossed nearly $400 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing movie musical ever. GREASE: LIVE will be a Paramount Television production.
GREASE: LIVE is produced by Paramount Television. Acclaimed film, television and theater producer Marc Platt (“Wicked,†“Into the Woodsâ€) will executive-produce, Tony Award-nominated director Thomas Kail (“Hamilton,†“In the Heightsâ€) is the director overseeing the stage direction and Alex Rudzinski (“Dancing with the Starsâ€) will serve as the live television director. Julianne Hough Sandy Julianne Hough is an actress, singer and two-time professional champion of “Dancing with the Stars.” She returned to the hit show in 2014 as a judge and recently headlined “MOVE Live on Tour 2015,” the second North American tour of the all-original stage production she created and performed with her brother, Derek. She will be seen next opposite Zac Efron and Robert De Niro in the comedy “Dirty Grandpa” and her film credits also include “Safe Haven,” “Paradise,” “Rock of Ages,” “Footloose” and “Burlesque.” A successful recording artist, her 2008 self-titled debut album hit the Billboard Country charts at No. 1 and entered the Billboard 200 at No. 3, marking the highest debut for a country artist in more than two years. Aaron Tveit Danny Aaron Tveit is an American theater, television and film actor. He will be seen next in the upcoming feature films “Stereotypically You” and “Undrafted.” This summer, he will be featured in the network thriller “Braindead.” Tveit recently starred in the cable series “Graceland.” Prior to “Graceland,” he portrayed the character “Enjolras” in Tom Hooper's 2012 award-winning film adaption of “Les Miserables.” Other feature credits include “Big Sky,” “Howl,” “Premium Rush” and “Ghost Town.” On Broadway, he starred in “Catch Me If You Can,” and also created the role of “Gabe” in the Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical, “Next To Normal.” Other Broadway credits include “Wicked,” “Hairspray” and “Rent.” Recently, Tveit starred in the critically acclaimed U.K. revival of “Assassins,” portraying John Wilkes Booth. Vanessa Hudgens Rizzo Vanessa Hudgens recently made her Broadway debut in the remake of the musical “Gigi.” Hudgens began her work in musical theater at a young age with shows such as “The Wizard of Oz,” “The King and I,” “The Music Man” and “Cinderella.” In addition, she starred in the iconic role of “Mimi” in “Rent” at the Hollywood Bowl. Keke Palmer Marty Keke Palmer is an award-winning actress who has established herself as one of the fastest rising stars of her generation. A multi-talented entertainer, Palmer’s acting and singling abilities made history as she was the first African-American to grace Broadway as “Cinderella” in the iconic Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical. Palmer started her career at the age of nine, with a small role in the feature film “Barbershop 2: Back in Business,” opposite Queen Latifah. Carly Rae Jepsen Frenchy Multi-Platinum-selling Grammy Award-nominated singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen most recently released her critically acclaimed new album, “E·MO·TION,” and premiered the video for her brand-new single, “Run Away With Me.” The first single released from the album, “I Really Like You,” became a global Top 40 hit, while the video is Vevo-certified with over 100 million views. “E·MO·TION” is the follow-up to Jepsen’s U.S. debut album, “Kiss,” which featured her blockbuster breakout hit, “Call Me Maybe.” The single climbed to No. 1 on the iTunes Singles charts in over 47 countries and has sold more than 18 million singles worldwide to date. Kether Donohue Jan A proud native New Yorker, Donohue has received critical acclaim for her fearless performances in film, television and theater. She has worked with a remarkable list of award-winning directors, including Barry Levinson, Sam Mendes, Jason Moore, James Burrows, Stan Lathan and Paul Feig. Donohue stars in the cable comedy “You’re The Worst,” in which she plays the substance-abusing and promiscuous “Lindsay Jillian.” Donohue was featured in “Pitch Perfect” and starred in the thriller “The Bay,” directed by Barry Levinson. She will next be seen in the upcoming musical comedy “One Shot,” opposite Topher Grace and Taye Diggs. A graduate of Fordham University with a concentration in film, Donohue has also co-produced several movies in which she has starred, including “Over the GW.” After making its world premiere at Slamdance Film Festival, “Over the GW” had a limited theatrical release and was used to promote social change when it was cited in a United States Congressional Hearing on Child Abuse and Deceptive Marketing by Residential Programs for Teens. Carlos Penavega Kenickie Carlos PenaVega shot to fame and cult status after starring on the highly successful cable musical comedy “Big Time Rush” as “Carlos Garcia.” He also was featured in the live stage show, which toured globally. He starred as “Oscar Vasquez” in feature film “Spare Parts,” alongside George Lopez and Marisa Tomei. Most recently, he competed on Season 21 of “Dancing with the Stars.” Last year, PenaVega starred in the competition series “Webheads,” executive-produced by Ryan Seacrest. David Del Rio Putzie DAVID DEL RIO (Putzie on GREASE: LIVE) David Del Rio is an accomplished actor who studied at the New World School of Arts in Miami, FL, and at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. He recently starred in the feature film “Spare Parts,” and wrapped production on the upcoming films “The Belko Experiment” and “Undrafted.” Additional credits include a supporting role in “Pitch Perfect,” the indie “Dead Drop” and the cable series “The Troop.” | |
Jordan Fisher Doody Jordan Fisher began his acting career by training and performing at Red Mountain Theatre Company in his hometown of Birmingham, AL. He got his professional start with a guest-starring role on the cable series “iCarly,” and then booked his first major role on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” as “Jacob.” In 2013, he was able to merge his love for acting, singing, and dancing as “Seacat” in the original cable film “Teen Beach Movie” and reprised his role in the sequel “Teen Beach 2” (2015). Other television credits include “The Thundermans” and “Teen Wolf.” He currently can be seen on “Liv and Maddie,” and he recently was cast as a lead in the cable pilot “Stay.” Fisher has recorded three singles.
